Throughout 2015, ADIP conducted a campaign calling for dialogue, reconciliation and anthropological engagement in AAA, rather than academic boycott. Unfortunately, at the November Business Meeting in Denver, those present voted overwhelmingly for a resolution supporting a boycott of Israeli academic institutions, and rejected our alternative anti-boycott resolution. The boycott resolution will now be sent to the full AAA membership for ratification or rejection, in an electronic vote between April 15th and May 15th 2016.
We at ADIP truly hope that academic openness will prevail when the question is put to the entire membership. We remain committed to our campaign against the boycott frenzy, and in support of dialogue and reconciliation, both within the AAA and in Israel and Palestine. We will be dedicating more energy and whatever resources we can obtain to keep this struggle going in the coming months and years. We are in the process of revamping our website, expanding our social media campaign, soliciting publications, and working with anthropologists and others on the Israeli left to develop local initiatives that contribute anthropological insights to public understandings of the conflict.
In order for our campaign to succeed, we need your help. The strength of our campaign will depend on available resources. Thus far, our efforts have been funded by members of the ADIP Steering Committee, who have donated from their own personal funds, and from other anthropological colleagues who support our efforts.
In addition to the moral, intellectual and organizational support we have already received from so many of you, we write to you today asking for your financial support. Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated; whether you can offer $10, $50, $100, or $500, it will make a significant difference in our efforts.
